Dr. Masmanidis Costas

Dr. Costas Masmanidis is an International Development Consultant with a long business management experience in many countries.

He studied Chemistry at the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki and graduated with Honors. He then moved to the USA, receiving his Ph.D.in Quantum Chemistry at the University of Cincinnati and winning a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

He is multilingual (Russian, German, Italian, Spanish, French, Turkish, Bulgarian) and in the last few years he has embarked on the self-study of Mandarin Chinese, a neverending but immensely fascinating and pleasurable voyage.

For two decades he worked in a major American multinational company in the chemical sector and held various international managerial positions in SWITZERLAND, U.S.A., EASTERN EUROPE as country or market manager and in GREECE as General Manager and Managing Director.

As Business and Management Consultant he worked in GREECE and TUNISIA on the improvement of SME competitiveness, sales and marketing, promotion of innovation, environmental management.

He has served as Secretary General of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization-BSEC Business Council, based in Istanbul. This is an International Organization with 12 Member States: ALBANIA, ARMENIA, AZERBAIJAN, BULGARIA, GEORGIA, GREECE, MOLDOVA, ROMANIA, RUSSIA, SERBIA, TURKEY, UKRAINE. Duties included promoting international business cooperation, promoting FDI in partnership with international organizations such as OECD, contributing to the elimination of barriers-to-trade and enhancing the capacities of business organizations within the broader region.

He is the author of the book “Globalization, Dematerialization and the New Economy-The transformation of business and the workplace at the dawn of the 21st century”. He has authored a training manual on “SME Competitiveness and Innovation”, a study: “Business Cooperation Opportunities in the Mediterranean”, several scientific papers and many articles in various languages. He has participated as chairman /speaker in many international conferences.

He is a founding member and has served twice as President of the Hellenic Association of Chemical Industries. In that capacity he successfully promoted the introduction of the environmental management program RESPONSIBLE CARE in the Greek chemical industry. He has held several other positions in business-support organizations, including: Vice President of the Hellenic-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Secretary General of the Athens-Piraeus Industry Federation, Member of the General Council of the Greek Industries Federation and Board Member of the Hellenic-American Chamber.
